In the second Hot Hotels feature from the Room with a View newsletter, we looked at the hotels that are soon to be opening in some of our most popular search destinations, as well as a few properties that are entirely new to both hotelier and location.
JK Place - Paris
The City of Light might be better known for its lavish palace hotels, but travellers looking for more of a boho-luxe vibe should check out the most anticipated opening among the Parisian fashion crowd from small Italian group J.K. Place.
This is the stylish group's first foray outside Italy, and it has been a long time coming – they took five years to find the perfect building, which turned out to be the old European Consulate on Rue de Lille, which overlooks the Seine.
Expected to open anytime now, JK Place Paris will have 30 guestrooms and suites decorated by designer Michele Bonan with bespoke Italian furniture, objets d’art and antiques sourced from the famous Paris flea markets, like the Marché des Puces de Saint Ouen to the north of the city. There will also be a spa by top French brand Sisley with a swimming pool. (Other Sisley spas in France can be found at luxury resorts like Baumanière and La Bastide de Gordes—situated in Provence.) The dining outlets, in partnership with Casa Tua, will also propose culinary classes with renowned chefs.
Mandarin Oriental Jumeira - Dubai
Located in one of Dubai’s most prestigious neighbourhoods, the resort’s spacious rooms and suites enjoy a luxurious, contemporary feel with stunning city or ocean views. Designed with a “Californian aesthetic”, expect wooden flooring, warm colours reflecting the western state and an understated, chic feel.
Scheduled to open before the end of Q1, Mandarin Oriental Jumeira, Dubai (a reference to the location, not to be confused with hotel brand Jumeirah) will have 178 rooms and 78 suites.
Its six restaurants and bars will be Tasca, led by Portuguese chef José Avillez; Netsu, a Warayaki-style Japanese steakhouse; and The Bay, a brasserie-style restaurant.
Light refreshments will be available at Noor Lounge, The Mandarin Cake Shop – which serves cakes, pastries and Arabic sweets – and poolside bar/restaurant Sun Vibe.
Other features of the hotel include the Mandarin Oriental Spa, spread over 2,000 sqm and featured a dedicated hammam-style suite, plus a grand ballroom that opens out on to the beach.
Rooms have been designed by Jeffrey Wilkes in bright blues and earthy tones, while outside, fourteen bronze metal trees with 900 lights lead down to the beach.
Singita Kwitonda Lodge, Volcanoes National Park - Rwanda
Singita is scheduled to open Kwitonda Lodge and Kataza House later this year. Located on a breathtaking, but isolated 178-acre piece of wetlands and lush meadows right on the edge of Volcanoes National Park, and it will primarily provide a luxury property close to the habitat of the estimated 320 mountain gorillas that find sanctuary in the park. Singita Kwitonda Lodge and Kataza House puts gorilla trekking within easy reach.
The Lodge itself will have eight suites and a four-bedroom villa linked by volcanic rock pathways to a central lodge. Fundamental to the design is treading lightly on the land, and therefore sustainability is at the core of the construction project. The architects and interior designers are selecting locally sourced and produced materials.
Coqui Coqui Residences and Spa - Bora Bora
In an exciting new move for the Coqui Coqui Residences and Spa portfolio, Coqui Coqui Bora Bora is being developed on the French Polynesian island, marking the very first time the Coqui Coqui Residences & Spa concept will leave its native Mexico.
Inspired by Polynesian flowers, fruits, woods, and herbs, perfumer Nicolas Malleville of the Yucatan-born Perfumeria has begun a new chapter on the island of Bora Bora. The extraordinary beauty to be found within its gem-coloured, emerald and turquoise lagoon is second to none.
At the top of a hill and in the middle of the array of botanical treasures, Coqui Coqui plans to open a new residence in perfect harmony with nature and filled with traditional Polynesian bungalow charm. This true gardener’s home will be complete with Polynesian architecture and history and built for living, relaxing and enjoying the inescapable beauty and paradise found below.
Lekkerwater Beach Lodge, De Hoop Nature Reserve - South Africa
Due to open next month, Lekkerwater Beach Lodge is the newest addition to the Natural Selection portfolio. Located in the beautiful De Hoop Nature Reserve, which is one of South Africa's best-kept secrets, the 34,000-hectare reserve is just over 3-hours drive from Cape Town.
Lekkerwater Beach Lodge has just seven rooms in total, including one family unit which includes a second bedroom in the loft. Each room comes with en-suite bathroom facilities, in-room WiFi and charging facilities, as well as hair dryers on request. Rooms are positioned along a stretch of white sand with each fronted by floor-to-ceiling windows which frame a spectacular view of the Indian Ocean. A small veranda provides a peaceful spot to soak up the views and tranquillity of the area. Room interiors will be decorated with earthy tones and a blue colour palette along with wood-burning stove to take the chill away on cooler mornings and evenings.
